How Our Water Jet and Laser Cutting Services Match Any Project’s Requirements
Whether it’s creating parts for custom machines or sheet metal fabrication, almost every task at Gemini Industrial begins with a cut. A quality cut is the first step in successful manufacturing, but the wrong technology can derail a project from the start with imprecise edges or slow production times. That’s why we’ve invested in complementary cutting technologies at our shop: laser cutting and water jet cutting.
By combining these two technologies, we’re able to efficiently tackle a range of projects, from thin sheet metal to heavy plates, along with a variety of other materials. Our multiple capabilities allow us to match your project to the best possible solution, optimizing for quality and cost-effectiveness.
Our In-House Laser Cutting Capabilities
Our high-speed laser cutting system accommodates materials up to a half-inch thick, including stainless steel, aluminum, and mild steel. This technology delivers exceptional precision, far exceeding typical sheet metal fabrication requirements. In addition, its minimal kerf and edge quality boost its efficiency.
The speed of our laser, combined with its repeatability, makes laser cutting ideal for projects where quality and quick turnaround are priorities.
The Benefits of Our Water Jet Cutting Services
Water jets operate in a drastically different manner than laser cutting, and this distinct technology extends our capabilities beyond what a laser alone can achieve. Our water jet is equipped with a five-axis head, enabling complex cuts at various angles. We can cut parts with bevels, tapers, and 3D contours, all with excellent accuracy.
At Gemini Industrial, our water jet can cut strong materials, including plate steel that is several inches thick. Additionally, its abilities are not limited to metals—our water jet can cut composites, rubber, plastic, glass, and ceramics, as well.
Heavy-duty projects are also far simpler to undertake with our water jet. We manufacture a variety of heavy-duty parts for off-highway equipment from 1.5” thick steel. Our five-axis head allows us to not only cut this material, but to control the taper across the cut, eliminating the need for any finishing on the final edge. Instead, parts can move directly to processes like painting or powder coating, saving our customers time and money.
A Case Study in Complementary Cutting
Our dual cutting capabilities allow us to not only choose the best method for any part, but to combine them in unique ways. For instance, one recent project involved mounting thick rubber to a steel part, requiring the laser for the steel and the water jet for the rubber.
This project demonstrates the combined effectiveness of these two systems. The water jet is ideal for thick components, while the laser quickly slices through thinner steel. A shop with only one option would be drastically less efficient — in fact, without access to both technologies, a project may even have to be split between two different shops, likely adding to costs and extending timelines.
Our Commitment to Quality in Every Part
Both laser cutting and water jet cutting are critical to our success at Gemini Industrial, as they form the foundation of our operations, ultimately feeding into both our sheet metal fab and machine building services. But cutting is only one part of our commitment to quality. Ultimately, our processes and, above all, our people ensure our success in delivering you the best quality results.
